Coming Soon to The Big Screen

By New Music, Short Film, Uncategorized

Wrote and recorded a new track with John K for VCA Graduate Film, “Ruby Tuesday”, a short film written and directed by Lucy Claire. It’s a backstage drama in a frankenstein world. A horror hung on the manipulation of a young woman with blind ambition in the dark underbelly of the music industry. Lucy reached out to ask if we would write and record a song that Ruby and her friend Tuesday, could perform as their punk duo “Ruby Tuesday” to kick off the film. We were stoked to oblige.

OMG… Leanne Kingwell is playing a GIG.

By comedy, Live Show, Music, News

It’s only ALL OF THE BEST fucking comedians in the whole goddamn country… PLUS ME… and it’s for a good cause. 🙂 I’m playing a 30 minute acoustic set to close out the night with the help of John Keskeridis (guitar), Fabian Fitzgerald (guitar/keys) and Nick Ralph (percussion). An outstanding line up of musical and comedic talent are coming together and volunteering their time to assist St Kilda Gatehouse provide a safer community for vulnerable women. The Gatehouse Unlocked event starts at 7pm on the 13th of November at Encore St Kilda Sea Baths, Melbourne, Australia. The event is the brainchild of two Melbourne journalists, Wendy Squires and Jane Gilmore, who are both active supporters of St Kilda Gatehouse. They clearly have some friends because between them they have been able to pull together; Wendy Harmer, Fiona O’Loughlin, Van Badham, Lawrence Mooney, Bev Killick, Mick Molloy, Greg Fleet, Adam Zwar, Rhys Muldoon, Claire Hooper, Deborah Conway, Willy Zygier and Leanne Kingwell who will become one line up for Gatehouse Unlocked. The importance of St Kilda Gatehouse’s work was highlighted last year after the tragic death of Tracy Connelly, who was murdered in Greeves Street in her van, parked opposite the Gatehouse Drop-In service. Drop-In has been operating for 20 years, giving the women who do street sex work a safe space, to relax, to share or to just exist in peace. A feeling that they matter, that they count for something. For women who have been taught to trust no-one, Gatehouse is a place where they learn to trust again. Fundraising is essential in keeping the Centre open to provide safety and support for vulnerable women. St Kilda Gatehouse CEO Sally Tonkin states; “I’m so overwhelmed with the talent that has come together for Gatehouse Unlocked, it demonstrates to us how many community members care for the wellbeing of those involved in street sex work”. She also said: “Our work can be very serious and dark, but amongst it there is always space for humour. It is a survival tool! We’re looking forward to an event where we gain exposure to a wider audience of support and enjoy a good laugh”. The night is promising laughs, a St Kilda beach sunset, music, light refreshments and the opportunity to purchase items via a live and silent auction.
